Cheilits - inflammation of the lips ( cold sores)
Cold sores — also called fever blisters — are tiny, fluid-filled lesions that occur on and around your lips. These blisters are often grouped together in patches. After the blisters break, a crust forms over the resulting sore. Cold sores usually heal within two weeks.
Cold sores spread from person to person by close personal contact, such as kissing. Cold sores are caused by a herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) closely related to the one that causes genital herpes (HSV-2). Both of these herpes simplex viruses can affect your mouth or your genitals, and can be spread via oral sex.

O - CV

Laparoscopy - Process of viewing the abdominal organs internally through a procedure.
In many cases laparoscopy can be done instead of laparotomy surgery that uses a larger incision in the belly. Laparoscopy can be less stressful and may have less problems and lower costs than laparotomy for minor surgeries. It can often be done without needing to stay overnight in the hospital.
Why It Is Done
Laparoscopy is done to:
- Check for and possibly take out abnormal growths (such as tumors) in the belly or pelvis.
- Check for and treat conditions such as endometriosis, ectopic pregnancy, orpelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
- Find conditions that can make it hard for a woman to become pregnant. These conditions include cysts, adhesions, fibroids, and infection. Laparoscopy may be done after initial infertility tests do not show the cause for the infertility.
- Do a biopsy.
- See whether cancer in another area of the body has spread to the belly.
- Check for damage to internal organs, such as the spleen, after an injury or accident.
- Do a tubal ligation.
- Fix a hiatal hernia or an inguinal hernia..
- Take out organs, such as the uterus, spleen, gallbladder (laparoscopic cholecystectomy), ovaries, or appendix (appendectomy). Partial removal (resection) of the colon also can be done.

Blepharitis is an inflammation of the eyelids, usually caused by an excess growth of bacteria that is ordinarily found on the skin, blockage of the eyelid's oil glands, and occasionally allergies.
Blepharitis is a common eye condition, causing the eyelids to be reddened, itchy, and somewhat swollen and scaly-appearing at the base of the eyelashes. It is the most common cause of dry eyes. A dysfunction of the eyelid's oil glands that leads to blepharitis occurs because of a hormone imbalance.

July 2014 Medical Terminology Word Patellectomy
Patell/ - Kneecap
Patell/ - Root

Patellectomy - Surgical removal of the kneecap
General anesthesia is typically used for kneecap removal surgery, though in some cases a spinal or epidural anesthetic is used. The surgeon makes a linear incision over the front of the kneecap. The damaged kneecap is examined. If a part or the entire kneecap is so severely damaged that it cannot be repaired, it may be partially removed (partial patellectomy) or totally removed (full patellectomy). If kneecap removal is total, the muscles and tendons attached to the kneecap are cut and the kneecap is removed. However, the quadriceps tendon above the kneecap, the patellar tendon below, and the other soft tissues around the kneecap are preserved so that the patient may still be able to extend the knee after surgery. Next, the muscles are sewn together, and the skin is closed with sutures or clips that stay in place for about two weeks.

Cervicitis - Inflammation of the Cervix
Determining the cause of cervicitis is important. If an infection is the problem, it can spread beyond the cervix to the uterus and fallopian tubes and into the pelvic and abdominal cavity. This may cause problems with fertility --the ability to becomepregnant. Or it may cause problems with your unborn baby if you are already pregnant.
Here's what you need to know about symptoms, causes, risk factors, tests, diagnosis, and treatment of cervicitis.
What Is Cervicitis?
Cervicitis is inflammation of the cervix, which can be due to:
- Irritation
- Infection
- Injury of cells that line the cervix
These irritated or infected cells may become red, swollen, and ooze mucus and pus. They may also bleed easily when touched.
These irritated or infected cells may become red, swollen, and ooze mucus and pus. They may also bleed easily when touched.
What Causes Cervicitis?
Severe cases of inflammation are usually caused by infections that are passed during sexual activity.
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) that may cause cervicitis include:
- Gonorrhea
- Chlamydia
- Genital herpes
- Trichomoniasis
- Mycoplasma and ureaplasma
But many women with cervicitis don't test positive for any type of infection. Other causes of the inflammation may include:
- Allergies to chemicals in spermicides, douches, or to the latex rubber in condoms
- Irritation or injury from tampons, pessaries, or from birth control devices like diaphragms
- Bacterial imbalance; normal, healthy bacteria in the vagina are overwhelmed by unhealthy or harmful bacteria. This is also called bacterial vaginosis.
- Hormonal imbalance; having relatively low estrogen or high progesterone may interfere with the body's ability to maintain healthy cervical tissue.
- Cancer or cancer treatment; rarely, radiation therapy or cancer may cause changes to the cervix consistent with cervicitis.
Symptoms of Cervicitis
Many women with cervicitis don't have any symptoms. The condition may be discovered only after a routine exam or test.
Signs and symptoms, if present, may include:
- Grayish or pale yellow vaginal discharge
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding, such as bleeding after sex or between periods
- Pain during sex
- Difficult, painful, or frequent urination
- Pelvic or abdominal pain or fever, in rare cases
Risk Factors for Cervicitis
You may be at higher risk for cervicitis if you:
- Had recent sexual intercourse without a condom
- Recently had multiple sexual partners

Hepatitis - inflammation of the liver
Viruses that primarily attack the liver are called hepatitis viruses. There are several types of hepatitis viruses including types A, B, C, D, E, and possibly G. Types A, B, and C are the most common.
Hepatitis viruses replicate (multiply) in the liver cells. Newly-produced viruses are released into the blood stream where they can be spread to other organs or to other persons exposed to the infected blood.
- The liver helps purify the blood by changing harmful chemicals into harmless ones. The source of these chemicals can be external, such as medications or alcohol, or internal, such as ammonia or bilirubin. Typically, these harmful chemicals are broken down into smaller chemicals or attached to other chemicals that then are eliminated from the body in the urine or stool.
- The liver produces many important substances, especially proteins that are necessary for good health. For example, it produces albumin, the protein building block of the body, as well as the proteins that cause blood to clot properly.
- The liver stores many sugars, fats and vitamins until they are needed elsewhere in the body.
- The liver builds smaller chemicals into larger, more complicated chemicals that are needed elsewhere in the body. An example of this type of function is the manufacture of cholesterol.
